Learn More About Digital Storytelling

The video below will show you examples of the digital stories made at a one-day workshop held in June 2010 as part of the Community Arts Ontario Gathering.

The digital age has changed the way we communicate. To be heard and understood in today’s world, we must expand our communication tools to include a new set of digital tools such as video, audio, photography and interactive environments such as the worldwide web.

Against this backdrop, the world continues to shrink and cultures intertwine. These new digital tools offer a bridge to understanding and accepting how we are different and how we are the same – important building blocks in leading meaningful lives in the places where we live.
The Latitudes and Longitudes project brings a contemporary version of the time-honoured tradition of storytelling to Waterloo Region neighbourhoods. Working with seasoned practitioners from the fields of storytelling, journalism and digital media, participants write and produce their personal stories as a short video for distribution on DVD and/or the internet.

The aim of this project is to: conduct a series of three digital storytelling workshops in neighbourhoods around Waterloo Region; creation of a digital story library and presentation stories at events in the community.
